[SLICE] Your Network Is Showing

Author: Randolph Infinger (@dolphin_finger)

A couple posts ago I spoke about the importance of industry and network events (check it out here) and am excited to expand on the THRILL that is networking! Yep, time to muster up that confidence and put your best name-tag forward. Here are some of my favorite networking communities:

Note: These groups are mostly based in Nashville, however there are many groups around the country that are operate in the same fashion as these. We'll come back to some of those in a later post

TONS

https://www.theothernashvillesociety.com/

Also known as The Other Nashville Society, TONS aims at connecting those in Nashville that are not in the country music scene. The non-country community in Nashville is steadily growing and continues to be a driving force in the industry (Moon Taxi anyone?).

I have personally attended a couple of TONS events and felt INCREDIBLY welcomed by the members and staff. A large majority of the TONS community is involved in the creative side of the music industry which creates great networking opportunities on both sides of the spectrum. While relatively new, TONS is growing at an astounding rate and looks to rival some of the other large players in the networking scene. I would highly recommend filling out an application to TONS if you are looking to further your network in the creative, business or legal field of music.

YEP

https://www.yepnashville.com/

Young Entertainment Professionals is interesting in that it does not require a membership to attend events and mixers. They simply ask you sign up for their mailing list and welcome all to their functions. There is sometimes a door fee, but it isn’t expensive and usually comes with a free drink.

One thing that has helped me in the beginning stages of my career was the YEP facebook group. With such a vast number of people in the YEP community there are countless opportunities being posted in all areas of the music industry: photo and video, music production, playlist spots, internship opportunities and more. If you haven’t already take a look, you might just find something you were looking for!

WhoKnew?

https://www.musicrowsearch.com/who-knew-nashville/

Who Knew is an extension of MusicRowSearch here in Nashville that aims to be different from a normal networking event: think of it as a Ted Talk mixed with Shark Tank and a little bit of speed dating.

My favorite thing about Who Knew is the way in which the audience is engaged. It can be difficult to have people listen to a speaker for an hour and a half, but Who Knew isn’t just ONE speaker speaking for ONE event. Instead, the lineups are stacked with incredibly respected executives and some of the best bands in Nashville performing. The theme continually changes to keep things fresh and is usually hosted in an awesome venue. Check out their upcoming events above and see if any might interest you!
